Air suspension units

THIS MOTORHOME

The 2.8 Fiat Hymer (Length 6 metres) is a delightful vehicle to drive and much more powerful than my first van was a 2.0 Fiat Hymer (Length 5 metres). With the exception of a fault with the table (which Hymer replaced), both vans have been excellent and trouble free. Although much better on the motorways than all the caravans that I owned and towed with large vehicles, between 1965 and 2003, I felt that when overtaking the HGV’s there was a slight stability problem especially when at the same time a van passed in the third lane.

AIR ASSISTED SUSPENSION

Speaking with others who had rectified the problem by fitting air assisted suspension units; I decided to give it a try and ordered the Firestone units from Steve Monkley at Marcle Leisure – www.marcleleisure.co.uk
On the web site, Steve has produced some excellent photographs and instructions which enabled me to fit the system. I am not one for working under a raised vehicle so worked one side at a time using the wheel jack to raise and enable the work to be done.

Talk about riding on air – there’s one word for it – fantastic.

John.
